This two-day workshop will use abstract painting approaches to produce an artwork with the feel of the landscape, rather than a literal description.
Through lessons in colour, mark-making, motif, and materiality, Evan will encourage students to imbue their work with their internal experience of Place. With plenty of art historical examples, we will look at the effects of slow, quiet, loud, busy constructions have on our pictorial space. This space is also examined by how we build landscapes visually and culturally, what forms representation might take, and how we embrace our experience of the present. All of this will flow from the point of our brush!
This workshop will include components of colour theory, approaches to organising the picture plane, brush techniques, painting, drawing, and collage. Due to the short nature of the workshop, students will be encouraged to use acrylic or watercolours.
Evan is an internationally respected teacher, generous with his knowledge of materials and techniques. He has MFA (1st Class) from Elam, and exhibits across the Asia-Pacific region. For more, see www.evanwoodruffe.com
