The title of this exhibition by Julia Holden and Tracey Sullivan references a poem of the same name, focusing on human inattention to what the world brings us, and what we have to lose through lack of care. Atawhai whenua means both “care for the land” and the name of the Reserve that runs from Alison Park down to Matiatia. Thirty years ago, this land was bare, treeless, and denuded by sheep. The now flourishing regenerating bush and birdlife shows what can be done when we care for the land.
