Margaret Emsley - The Light Gets In

19 June - 18 July 2021

Margaret Emsley presents new works in charcoal that explore the tension between light and shadow.

Artists Statement: The transformation of a flower through it’s brief lifespan reveals the inevitable, inescapable process of change. As the colours fade and petals wither, she sees new possibilities emerge, an energy or life force that can’t be contained which she tries to express with charcoal on paper. This medium provides the ideal tool to explore the tension that is created between the opposing forces of light and darkness as well as the interior and external self. Margaret also sees flowers as metaphors and uses them to express an idea, theme or emotion.

Margaret Emsley will be in the gallery on Sunday at 10am, available to chat about her work, pop in and say hello!
Her exhibition The Light Gets In, showing in the Small Gallery is not be missed, an incredibly skilful use of charcoal in these exquisite works.
