A Day at the Beach

Julia Holden’s exhibition A Day At The Beach, tells the story of Waiheke’s Little Palm Beach regulars and the daily social interactions of its community of clothing-optional bathers in an exhibition of new paintings.

Referencing the tradition of Le Grande Nu, Julia Holden and Christchurch performance artist Audrey Baldwin, will create a new performance painting work as a live special event to accompany the exhibition.

Taking inspiration from American painter Tom Wesselman, best known for the Great American Nude, and combining painting with sculpture, performance and photography, Audrey acted as the ‘living canvas’ for the new performance painting work titled, The Great Waiheke Nude.

At this special event, visitors enjoyed a selection of delicious wines and taste treats while the performance took place. 

During this performance visitors learned about Julia’s art practice and explored the transition between classical and contemporary figure painting.
