The Great Waiheke Nude - Performance Painting

Julia Holden’s exhibition A Day At The Beach, tells the story of Waiheke’s Little Palm Beach regulars and the daily social interactions of its community of clothing-optional bathers in an exhibition of new paintings.
Against this background of new paintings depicting Little Palm Beach life, Holden will also create a new performance painting work with Christchurch artist, Audrey Baldwin, as a special gallery event.

Taking inspiration from American painter Tom Wesselman, best known for the Great American Nude, and combining painting with sculpture, performance and photography, Audrey will act as the ‘living canvas’ for a new performance painting work to be titled, The Great Waiheke Nude.

At this special event, visitors will enjoy a selection of delicious wines and taste treats for around 45 to 50 minutes while the performance takes place. 

During this time Elizabeth Eastmond and Sandra Chesterman will provide supporting commentary about Julia’s art practice and explore the transition between classical and contemporary figure painting.
