I am continuing the visual story of ‘Iti Pounamu’ (Small Treasures) Unearthed which featured slices of Kauri cobbles uplifted from Karangahape Road, Auckland.
Carving and working on broken kauri cobbles (gifted by Matt Harte) with mixed media and encaustic, has elevated them into artistic artefacts, referencing the Ngati Pikiao gum diggers who came to Waiheke, to salvage a byproduct of prior deforestation of this now endangered giant.
