Differentiation No. 2 Diptych

Artist: Tom Fox
Year: 2019
Materials: Chalk pastel on paper

Tom Fox is a Dunedin based artist, Father and Poppa. His art practice is anchored in the study of altered perceptions. His drawings are an investigation into sensory distortions from having divergent neurology, notably autism, sensory processing disorder and aphantasia. The large scale portraits capture these distortions as dissolving forms, repetitions and inversions of light and shadow. Once rendered and frozen in time the distortions can then be navigated and processed from a new perspective. Each drawing is made through the layering of marks and imprints of his fingertips that are dipped in ground chalk pastel.
