Inspired by stone artifacts discovered at Wairau Bar, this work references the geological features such as hard basalts, argillite’s, pounamu etc. which are true taonga for our people as well as the skill sets used by our Tohunga in working the stone. The Wai 262 claim is just a small part in reversing the damage done by the Tohunga Suppression Act of 1907 which saw our experts/tohunga supressed.
