Manu Tukutuku for Matariki

Artist: Marg Graydon
Materials: Acrylic on board

Kites have always played an important role in Maori culture. Maori kites are known at ‘manu tukutuku’, with many being the word for both bird and kite. The word tukutuku refers to the winding out of the line as the kite ascends.

With my work, I wanted to show ‘night kites’ with the Matariki nine stars featured in the sky above.
