Much of my jewellery work draws on botanical imagery and this work is an extension of some pieces that look at the layering of leaf patterns. I am interested in the patterns and light and the shadows things cast. Over time these headlands and valleys were cleared of trees for farming and it is only now starting to be replanted, but it will still be many more years before there will be leaf canopy here again. I hope to create a little respite from the beating sun, a place of patterns and light, a restful place of contemplation. The work embodies underlying themes of camping and sailing that are evident in the structural use of rigging and guy ropes, a reflection of my early experiences on Waiheke.
