These works are a collaborative printmaking effort by Maia and Neko. They explore the important kaupapa ‘Tai Ora’, the wellbeing of our oceans and marine life.

Maia and Neko recycled album covers with kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of Manu Moana (Ocean birds) in mind. Lino block prints complement nga manu and the watery blue vinyls reflect the movement of the moana.

From an indigenous perspective manu are seen as a link between worlds and play an important role in our environment. They are always communicating with us. The manu are calling out for action on sustainability and guardianship. They are the kaikaranga/spiritual communicators of te taiao, the wildlife environment.

A special shout out to Nga Kaiako mahi toi Natalie Couch and Charlotte Graham for their matauranga and awhi, nga mihi mahana ki a korua.
