I am making a drawing a day during the NZ lockdown for Covid-19.
I often look to antiquity and mythology to explore contemporary issues. In many of the drawings in this series I am drawing inspiration from the Whirling Dervishes in the Sufi mystical tradition who are often depicted in iconographic manuscripts. Their dance expresses ecstasy and freedom through movement and trance. Choosing this subject and my decision to make a drawing each day during the Covid-19 NZ Lockdown are for me an antidote to the crisis and its conditions of confinement.
