Lois Simpson

Lois’s art explores natural themes with several works formed using driftwood collected from the bay shores. Several works feature natural flora and fauna including; pohutukawa, flax (harakeke), nikau palms, cabbage trees (ti kouka), kereru, tui, baches and bay scenes. Lois has a particular passion for maps of all descriptions and many find there way to the backgrounds of her works with numerous pieces also integrating a three dimensional aspect.

Lois’s style has evolved from a childhood spent “making things” in her dad’s big shed in the rural area of Halcombe, New Zealand, through to time spent painting, drawing and learning the technique of making and restoring frescos in Florence Italy, to more recently concentrating on painting scenes within the much loved Waiheke Island.
