For me the picture plane is a place of discovery. Although perhaps initially influenced by architecture, pattern and colour within the urban environment, these paintings do not ultimately describe anything outside of themselves.

Each painting develops through an intuitive structuring of elements. Basic triangular shapes butt up against each other in a hard edged abstract way.

The paintings are made up of clean-edged colour which reinforces the flatness of the picture surface. The triangle is the strongest shape and holds it’s shape with a base which has a strong support. In Greek culture the triangle is used to mean a doorway to a higher wisdom.

The many and varied colours I use, represent to me the colour field found in our every day surroundings.
