The Gallery is delighted to announce that our 2016 Artist in Residence is Wellington artist Michel Tuffery.
Many of you will recall his dramatic light work was projected onto the exterior facades of Te Papa at its opening ceremony and probably know of his large scale cattle made from Corned Beef cans that are resident in most of major institutions within New Zealand and Australia.
Michel Tuffery who is of Samoan, Tahitian and Cook Island descent is one of New Zealand’s best known contemporary artists, with a practice that spans, printmaking, painting, sculpture, performance along with light and film work.
Michel will be coming to Waiheke in April for his first six weeks and again in August for another six weeks prior to his September exhibition at the Gallery.
During his time here he will be focus on painting and will be facilitating workshops at our local schools.
We are currently looking for some self-contained accommodation for Michel who arrives on April 6th.
