Geoff Steven’s travel photos are extraordinary not simply for their compositional qualities, but also for their unsentimental documentation of a bygone world. Taken during his travels between 1966 and 1969 in Asia, the Soviet Bloc, Europe and the Middle-East, they document lives lived on the cusp of a great change in human history, when half the world was, for better or worse, insulated from Western influence, be that through war, poverty or ideology.
Geoff has generously agreed to give a talk about his travels in the exhibition space at Waiheke Art Gallery at 3pm this Sunday, 30 August.
Don’t miss this last chance to view the exhibition and hear directly from the photographer himself.
