My painting practice is deeply involved with process. It is a meditative practice mindful of the inherent material attributes of specific pigments which determine qualities such as viscosity, luminosity, and transparency. I have a fascination for the nature of surfaces, pigments and mediums and the endless possibilities their interactions and qualities can reveal.
The imagery is not premeditated but evolves in the process. Intuitive response to the behaviour of the pigment and to the colour fields created guides the progress of the work and requires contemplation and patience. The process is an open ended collaboration between the artist and the materials.
In a fast paced world both the process and works themselves provide an opportunity for mindfulness and contemplation.
