Clay Connections – Sip and Sculpt

Sunday 20 July

Spend the day sinking your hands into clay with and yuggera and biri - First Nation Australian Artist Jody Rallah.

Whether you're a seasoned expert or a complete beginner, this workshop is open as a multigenerational experience. Jody will guide you through the process of creating your own sculptural vessels from clay.

Enjoy some kai and tea as you make. We are collaborating with local Māori tea maker Timmy Smith, who will provide a tea tasting sensory experience and insight into the teas.

Create a set of clay vessels using local clays and seeds and basic hand building techniques, including pitch pots and coils, sgraffito and embedding.

This is process-based workshop where we will explore our connection with clay bodies, considering the role of clay as a cultural facilitator, it’s creation, composition, healing properties and its memories.

Please bring along a small container of items you wish to embed in your clay, for example, leaves (please only collect what is plentiful and on the ground), shells, textures meaningful to you).
